Three sets of policies, three audits, three times the cost, and a quality system bolted on somewhere if a tender demands it. There is a better way. We call it the **Triangle of Control**. ## Three corners, one foundation The triangle has three corners: **ISO 27001**, an Information Security Management System (ISMS) to protect information; **ISO 27701**, a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS) to protect personal data; and **ISO 42001**, an AI Management System (AIMS) to govern artificial intelligence. All three stand on one foundation: **ISO 9001**, the Quality Management System that keeps the whole structure focused on customers. ## Why this works These standards share the same harmonised structure by design: context, leadership, risk, support, operation, evaluation, improvement. Build them as one integrated system and you write the evidence once, run one internal audit programme, hold one management review, and tell one clear story to every customer, regulator and due-diligence questionnaire that asks. The alternative, four parallel systems, means duplicated policies, duplicated audits and a compliance bill that grows with every certificate. Integration is not a shortcut; it is how the standards were designed to be used. ## The timing is right Three developments make this the moment to integrate. ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026, with a three-year transition window, which makes now the natural point to rebuild quality as your foundation. ISO 27701:2025 is now a standalone standard, so privacy can be the front door of the triangle where that suits your business, with 2019-edition certificates transitioning by October 2028. And the EU AI Act's heavier high-risk obligations have been deferred to late 2027 and 2028, breathing room best spent building AI governance properly rather than scrambling later. ## We practise what we implement Cybercontrols is itself certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 42001: our own management systems, our own risk assessments, our own audit findings.
